go peryaOn Wednesday, the Boston Celtics signed a sharpshooting 6-foot-5 guard following his disastrous showing in Las Vegas.

kabibe game“NEW: The Celtics have officially signed Max Shulga to a two-way contract,”SB Nation’s Noa Dalzell reported on X/Twitter. “Shulga was selected with the 57th pick and averaged 5 points and 3.8 assists across five Summer League games.”

Shulga, known for lighting up from beyond the arc, struggled mightily with his three-point shot this summer. 

In five contests with the Celtics, Shulga averaged five points on a horrid 24.1% from the field and 21.4% from deep. 

That said, the VCU product’s disappointing performance in the Summer League was far from an accurate representation of his long-range shooting ability.

Shulga got off to a slow start from three-point range at the collegiate level, but caught fire as a sophomore and never looked back.

The 23-year-old connected on 39.2% of his triples for his career, demonstrating he can be a reliable perimeter threat despite underachieving during his freshman campaign. 

It also helps that Shulga is a defensive pest willing to apply pressure on quick-witted and shifty ball handlers 30+ feet from the basket.

Although Shulga didn’t leave a lasting impression on the Celtics this offseason, they’ll be ample opportunities for the  Kyiv, Ukraine native to make up for his uncharacteristic offensive play to begin his professional journey.
