League One predictions 2025/26: Top six & promotion contenders

As well as the sides mentioned above, there are plenty of other teams who will fancy their chances of at least making the playoffs. 

Bolton Wanderersare one such team, having finished in the top nine in all four of their League One seasons since promotion from League Two. Once a Premier League stalwart, could this be the year they begin their climb back up?

AFC Wimbledonmake their return to League One after success in the playoffs, but are the odds-on favourites to go straight back down. 

Doncaster, Port ValeandBradfordall came up automatically, and while the third tier is unpredictable and a playoff push isn't out of the question, survival will be the aim first and foremost. 

Northampton andBurtonjust stayed up last season, and will likely be involved in the lower ends of the table again this year, as might Exeter City

The 2025/26 League One season gets underway on the weekend of August 1-3 2025.

There are 46 rounds of league matches scheduled across 33 weekends, four midweeks and eight Bank Holidays and international breaks. 

The season is scheduled to finish on the weekend of May 2/3rd, with the League One play-off final 25/26 slated for Sunday, May 24, 2026.

How to watch the League One 2025/26 season

The League One season is available to watch in the U.K. via Sky Sports, who will screen over 1,000 EFL games across the Championship, League One, League Two and the EFL Cup and EFL Trophy.

Matches will be shown on Sky Sports or the Sky Sports+ streaming service, which is also available to all Sky Sports subscribers or through NOW TV.
